Day 1

Flight to Palumeu

Kick things off with a scenic one-hour flight from Paramaribo to the charming village of Palumeu, nestled by the Tapanahony River. Settle into rustic cabins, dive into the river, meet friendly locals, and get ready for the journey ahead.


Day 2

Canoe Into the Jungle

Hop into a traditional canoe for an epic 8-hour ride upriver. Glide through lush rainforests, navigate thrilling rapids, and arrive at the base camp near the majestic Kasikasima mountain. Sleep under the stars in cozy hammocks, dreaming of tomorrow’s big adventure.


Day 3

Conquer the Kasikasima Summit

Rise early and tackle a 7-hour trek to the peak of Kasikasima. Push through jungle trails, steep climbs, and breathtaking scenery. At the summit, soak in jaw-dropping views of the endless Amazon stretching into Brazil. Celebrate around the campfire as night falls.


Day 4

Picnic on the River
Paddle back to Palumeu, with plenty of time to savor the rainforest’s beauty. Stop for a riverside picnic and reflect on your adventure. Once back, enjoy a relaxing afternoon exploring the village or unwinding.

Farewell, Amazon

1. Traveling to Suriname

Yes, there are direct flights from Amsterdam to Paramaribo several times a week, lasting about 9 hours. This direct connection makes it easy to experience an Amazon adventure in just one week--perfect for a short, intense trip. Alternatively, the expedition can be seamlessly integrated into your South America travel plans.
The time difference is only 4 to 5 hours, depending on the season. This means jet lag is minimal, allowing you to quickly adapt to the local time.
German citizens do not need a visa to enter Suriname. Instead, you only need to pay an entry fee of $50. After payment, you'll receive an Entry Fee Voucher to present upon arrival. The process can be completed online via the official VFS Global - Suriname website.

2. Traveling to Palumeu

The journey starts with a flight from Zorg en Hoop Airport in Paramaribo to Palumeu. The 75-minute flight offers stunning views of:
  • The aluminum plant in Paranam
  • The Brokopondo Reservoir (1,560 km²)
  • Brownsberg National Park with its waterfalls
  • The gold-rich region of the Nassau Mountains
Palumeu is located at the confluence of the Palumeu and Upper Tapanahony Rivers. It serves as the starting point for the journey to Mount Kasikasima, about 66 km to the south.

3. General Information About Suriname

Suriname is the most densely forested country on Earth, with around 93% of its land covered by tropical rainforest, forming part of the Amazon. Suriname offers an incredible variety of flora and fauna that you'll experience up close during your tour.

4. The Village of Palumeu

Palumeu is home to around 300 people from the Amerindian tribes of Trio and Wajana, who live together in harmony. The villagers rely on traditional activities such as hunting, fishing, and small-scale farming.
The village has a school and a medical facility to provide basic care for its residents.

5. Tour Itinerary and Highlights

The first day starts with a flight to Palumeu, where you'll visit the indigenous village and prepare for the expedition. The next day, you'll embark on an 8-hour upstream journey in a traditional wooden boat. By evening, you'll arrive at the camp.
The highlight of the tour is the ascent to Kasikasima, a sacred mountain offering spectacular views of the Amazon rainforest. The following day, you'll head back to Palumeu.
Kasikasima is a sacred mountain standing 718 meters tall. From its summit, you'll enjoy an unforgettable view of the rainforest, with visibility stretching as far as Brazil on clear days.

6. Accommodations and Meals

  • In Palumeu, you'll stay at the Kasikasima Jungle Lodge in one of five separate sleeping rooms.
  • During the jungle adventure, you'll sleep in hammocks with mosquito nets.
Local cooks prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Water, coffee/tea, and juices or sodas are served with meals.
